Pros

The opportunity to work from home most of the week is great. Location is great, although there is traffic in the immediate area, but if you only go one once or twice a week it's no big deal. "Winter Recess" is a HUGE bonus. You get almost 2 weeks off for winter break. I say almost because there may be a Monday and Tuesday where you have to go in, based on when Christmas falls, but they also give you two floating holidays that you can use during that time. Also, some bosses/depts are very flexible and you can be more "on call" on those days as long as you've gotten your work done already. I've worked in multiple depts and have always enjoyed my bosses and coworkers. The PTO is great--you don't "use it or lose it." Maternity leave has increased to 6 weeks (used to be 3), which still isn't great, but it's better. Work/life balance is wonderful, from my experience. I feel like I can unplug for the day/weekends. Not high stress.

Cons

The salary is very low compared to other industries, but that is higher ed. They've paused merit increases a few times due to whatever is happening in the world (COVID, administration). There are no bonuses that I'm aware of. There's no "Christmas bonus," unless maybe your department head gives one out from their own pocket as a gift (we get $50). Health benefits aren't great for family plans. Very expensive for poor plans. But if you're single, the health plan is low and good. Besides no room to grow for most roles, low pay, and expensive family plans, the place is a nice place to work.
