Pros

-Excellent benefits. 403b with matching contributions, medical, dental, vision, legal aid, tuition reimbursement and free or reduced price trainings, childcare benefits, carpool and other transit benefits, long and short-term disability, life insurance, discounts for things ranging from cosmetic surgery to car insurance, etc. -Name recognition. Just being tied to Emory University does open doors and looks good on a résumé. The work Emory does is certainly highly reputable. -Equitable salaries. From my own experience talking with friends of color I work with, discussions of salaries have shown that, at least in my department, people with the same education and experience have very similar salaries regardless of race or gender. -Connections. Emory is one of the largest employers in Atlanta, which means it has connections to many other companies, universities, people, etc. You can build some fantastic connections in the community and beyond Atlanta this way. -Skills & Knowledge. You can learn a great deal and use the information and skills learned to help forward your career.

Cons

-Lack of diversity. Emory is like most other elite universities in that it is predominately white and the people who work or learn there are mostly from higher income backgrounds. Though it varies by department, Emory appears to have difficulty hiring people of color, especially Black and indigenous people, and even greater difficulty retaining those individuals. The lack of racial, ethnic, gender, and other forms of diversity becomes even more apparent as you ascend the income/position ladder there. As I mentioned above though, I will say after speaking with Black and other colleagues of colors there, it does appear that salaries are equitable within the same position (though this doesn't address the fact that more people of color remain stuck in the lower paid positions at Emory overall).

Pros

Health insurance/vision/dental. although none of these are free and are only partially covered by Emory. Retirement benefits are OK. Emory matches your contribution up to a percentage.

Cons

Senior leadership at Emory is big on campus culture and community. Most schools/units/divisions require going into the office 3 days/week. They are not willing to budge for anyone and would rather lose valuable employees than allow for full remote work. This is especially frustrating for those whose work do not require being on campus and can be done remotely, often at a higher productivity rate and most definitely a happier state of mind. Parking is not free and comes out of your paycheck. Salary is not competitive to other large companies unless you are a faculty with a PhD or executive director/c-suite level candidate.

Pros

It's noted as being a top school.

Cons

The school, employees, and organization will stab you in the back. Untruthfulness is rampant there. The organization/leaders/deans/faculty will harass you and make your life difficult if you speak up against the lying and other manipulation that goes on there. It is so bad, that it spills over to the students. They treat their students almost as bad (and sometimes worse) than their employees.
