      Good benefits, non-profit (low) pay, unambitious culture

      Pros

      Health, dental, 401K match, and other benefits are excellent. Colleagues are generally congenial and willing to help you out Opportunities for cross-training within departments Management supportive of and understanding of desire to move on once you've mastered your current position Very relaxed, casual working environment Very hard to get a job at Emory, but once you're there, you're set Work-life program gives opportunity to propose a schedule that works best for your life

      Cons

      Parking is paid by employee to the tune of $650 per year Very limited time off and sick accrual for new employees. Worked at Emory for months before I'd accrued enough for a long weekend A lot of "lifers" who aren't passionate about their work or are driven to excellence Emory is huge, and your work life can vary considerably from School to Unit Terrible employee annual review process. Overly long with very little chance for a raise that makes a difference While you technically everybody is elligible for a raise every six months, nobody gets one. Raises happen once per year. No holiday bonus. Everyone seems to start on the low end of a salary grade (the minimum). Haven't heard of anyone being offered at the "midpoint" grade, even with years of experience. Very high competition for administrative assistant and program coordinator positions
