Pros
- Exposure to orthopaedic biotech and engineering, opportunity to visit the operating theatre to watch cases - Colleagues were great, younger staff in general and lots of social opportunities - Work drinks on Friday frequently well catered for, dinner etc for those who stayed late
Cons
- Management allocates an unreasonable amount of time-critical work, ensuring that everyone has to stay late on a regular basis. Employees that wanted to leave on time were looked down upon by management, even those were not in time critical roles - Pay is below market rate, especially for those that stayed after a year or two, with salaries barely rising - combined with the above issue meant that average hourly rate was worse than Maccas! - During COVID senior management the entire workforce to sign a contract at 50% pay at 100% hours, forcing us all to sign contracts within a day or we would be let go. A number of people left during this time, but most of us didn't have the means to risk it and leave, further increasing the workload on those remaining - The company tends to over-invest in new shiny toys for the surgeons, promising the world, with the engineers rushing to meet the requirements of the project. - High staff turnover meant that there was a lot of time spent on internal training of new staff, management seemed to be okay with this as the work would eventually get done (see point 1), rather than fix the issues causing high turnover
