Not a great place to work - Engineering APCON Employee Review

Pros

There are some nice people here, but the turnover is constant, so the good ones don't stay very long. Technology is mildly interesting. If you want to see how high a stress level you can stand, it's a good place to test that out.

Cons

Chaotic and unrealistic schedules make it difficult to succeed. Even if additional features are added to the product, it is "late" if the original unrealistic date is not met. Product development is based on the feature of the day that springs from the CEO's head. Nobody in engineering is allowed to talk to customers and the process used to derive the features is opaque. Attempts to improve the process are viewed with hostility. Management (mostly due to the CEO who owns the whole place) cannot bring themselves to trust most of their employees and constantly treat them like they are trying to cheat the company when the reality is that they are simply trying to do good work. It is a very difficult environment. Ideas are not welcomed and if you make very many suggestions, you end up on a corrective action plan. People are put in information silos and attempts are made to prevent them from talking to each other, so it's often difficult to get the information you need to do your job. Access to information on servers is very restricted, often to what is a ridiculous degree. In spite of HR's comments here in response to another (spot-on) review, HR does not help the employees and cannot be trusted with anything. HR has run off good employees based on a single off-hand remark. Corrective action plans with vague objectives are implemented with frightening frequency.

Pros

APCON is an excellent company for anyone looking to advance their marketing career. As a Marketing Strategist, I have had the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects that have significantly enhanced my skills. The management genuinely values creativity and encourages out-of-the-box thinking. The team environment is collaborative and supportive, making it easy to share ideas and innovate. The leadership provides clear goals and offers constructive feedback to help employees grow. Additionally, the company invests in professional development through workshops and training sessions, which have been invaluable. The work culture promotes a healthy balance between personal and professional life, and the benefits package is competitive. Cons:

Cons

Honestly, not many. Like any fast-paced environment, there can be busy periods, but the support from the team makes it manageable.

Pros

The people who work at APCON are very nice and knowledgeable.

Cons

The headline says it all. The CEO is a rude, narcissistic bully. His input is never specific or useful, just general mean comments meant to knock employees to their knees. I was out the door as soon as I found another job.
