Pros
with the london premium the pay is good for what it is. sometimes you meet quite sweet shoppers, especially in the mornings. There was not a "customer is always right" attitude, which gave a good support network when dealing with unreasonable customers. My line managers were really great despite the pressures they faced (more in the cons)
Cons
I met some of the worst of humanity in that store. Constant anger, constant entitlement. Customers think you're worse than dirt for daring to work there, and regard you with real suspicion. Not only that, the upper management were tyrannical, and used to scream at the line managers infront of staff. One lady used to wait till it got quiet to berate people for standing around....at the self service tills. There was a lot of micromanaging and unreasonable expectations. The head office had no idea how the shop ran, which is embarrassing. They never hired enough staff so there were never enough tills open. They expected us to guard the 30p bags in a way that made customers irate and just felt cruel in a cost of living crisis. The security boss made scan and go checks near constant, which was time consuming and unnecessary, especially as the technology is outdated and buggy. I can't speak for all stores but I think these are pretty common problems.
