Pros
Can build your automotive knowledge and customer service skills, if you're motivated on your own. Easy to make a rapport with any and all customers and most team members.
Cons
Pay is atrocious Bonuses are almost always unattainable, and when going thru a year where lots of bonuses are paid, the following year, they switch up targets, focus, and bonus strategies so they don't have to pay out. Little to no advancement, they hire from outside, and most of the time the folks they hire are NOT in the automotive industry. They hire from DG, FD, Starbucks, Walmart, etc. There's no loyalty, they seem to be getting rid of all the old timers that actually knew about parts, service and cars. Health insurance is pretty basic, being a billion dollar company it's a shame they won't offer better insurance. Vacation is accrued but good luck actually getting to use it, so therefore you lose it. Because of understaffing or being denied for "other" reasons. Gossip travels fast, especially with GM-DM teams that are friendly with each other. They refuse transfers, put you on PIPS, or terminate you for no cause. A "readiness checklist" or "commitment to excellence " that tells you what time of the day to do what. IE ,at 815am you should be checking your email. Micromanagement is the number 1 killer. The computers and operating systems are beyond messed up and old. Stop the corporate greed, and making the stock holders happy and make your stores workable. And lastly there is no work life/home life balance. Schedules are not stable at all. Close one night open the next, off 3 days, then work the complete opposite. Must have open availability, so you can't even get a second job because there's no telling what you'll work.
