Pros
The company has an outstanding 401k match (dollar for dollar up to 6%). The health insurance, tuition reimbursement, vacation and such benefits are also great but nothing that stands out too much from other employers. Like many companies in the US, maternity leave is a joke and lightyears behind other developed countries. The people that work at Alliance are all friendly and nice. However, many don’t know how to behave in a professional setting, the dress code is questionable and office talk often times inappropriate and very loud.
Cons
The biggest reason why Alliance will struggle to keep good people working here is their very uncompetitive yearly raise of 2-3%. No matter how hard you work you will not get a larger raise than 3%, this matched with the fact that they already underpay people who are skilled and have higher education makes it just a pit stop for many people as they search for more fitting employers. A number of people in my department have left for better positions and their departure has hurt the company. Many others are actively seeking other positions. Other sad truths about Alliance, non-existent work-life balance. Work times are strict and not negotiable to the point where your superiors will have a talk with you for leaving a minute earlier, yes 1 minute. Candidates who are more qualified are passed up for those that have family/friends working at the company. People who are not qualified are hired for certain positions and their coworkers have to suffer through this. Management needs to take a class on managing people because passive aggressive emails to the department are embarrassing and not a way to correct issues that are visible. The company is not invested in joining the future and is stuck in their ways. The younger hires could bring a lot of new insight and skill to the departments but we never ask for their opinion or use them to their full potential. I could go on but I will refrain from mentioning minor things such as a lack of a proper lunch room for office employees, lack of parking, sad interior of the buildings, lack of diversity among employees etc.
