Pros

There are some nice people who work for Alta. The work can be interesting, especially if you are passionate about active transportation.

Cons

The management and culture are lacking in major way. Managers in Oakland are some of the worst I've ever encountered. The turnover rate is unbelievably high due to poor management. I worked in Oakland for one year and watched 10 staff leave, quit, or be fired (the office is only about 20 people). Be prepared to be greeting newcomers and saying goodbye to colleagues regularly while the management pretends everything is great. There is a culture of consistently underbidding on work to secure contracts, thus resulting in a high pressure environment to get work done within budget while meeting an unrealistic billing quota. There has been an ongoing history of production staff being forced to bill less time than the work actually takes. This creates a situation where you will be required to work way beyond a typical work week so that you hit your billing quota and get the projects finished. Project managers regularly make you bid internally for work (i.e. There may be a task that genuinely requires 4 hours of time. The project manager will ask you how much time it will take you and if you say 4 hours, they will try to find someone who will agree to only bill 2 hours for the task, even though it takes that person 4 hours.) When you are constantly being forced to underbill, it makes it very difficult to meet an 85-95% billing/utilization rate.

Pros

Everyone here is bought in and laser focused on the mission to improve our transportation infrastructure by creating better multimodal options for people to get where they want to go without driving. You won't meet a group of more inspired or passionate people about the work that we do. Beautiful downtown office space with stocked kitchen and amazing views. Flexible hybrid work environment, most people come in 2 days a week. Growth opportunity for high performers, if you work hard, your work will usually be recognized and opportunities will come. many leaders have been at the company and grown with it for a long time and are standard-bearers for the culture. constantly growing and adding headcount as well, the business is in good shape financially Truly a national firm so opportunities to work on projects and collaborate with experts in the field all over the country. Great PTO, wellness, bike, and commuter benefits.

Cons

The pace and nature of consulting isn't for everyone. Priorities and focus shift often, and you have to be adaptable and open to change

Pros

- Benefits are good and unique - Good PTO to start (22 days + 2 flex holidays, 9 holidays) - Wellness benefit and commenting benefit (up to $1,700 per year) are great. - Hybrid work schedule (2 in-office days, for now) - Work is fulfilling and very different than other companies - If you have the skillset, they will let you work across teams - the people are incredibly dynamic

Cons

- Owned by private equity - questionable management decisions from Trilon C Suite that filter down to Alta - Morale is a little low at times - Pushing RTO aggressively - too rigid with advancement opportunities - pay is below industry average, particularly in southeast - flexibility that managers had is going away with regard to work schedules and remote/hybrid
