Pros
I joined Astute at a weird time in my life. I was with another employer (my second after graduation) and it wasn't working out. When I started I was incredibly excited by the company's client list and the size of the company as well as their suite of products. The idea of making customer service smooth and personalized was amazing. There were also great benefits and some fun activities like going bowling after hours.
Cons
Having a team that works completely remote sounds like a good idea in theory, but with that you also get spread out and don't get to form relationships as smoothly as you would if you worked together. This includes learning how to interact with each other. Not to mention when I was here (at least) most of the people who worked around me were very quiet and kept to themselves and there wasn't a lot of socialization or discussion. In fact, it kind of felt like working in a library during finals week where everyone is asked to be quiet as much as possible. I also didn't have a lot of strong leadership guiding me from my point of view. Responsibilities and expectations weren't very clear and communication was very one way. There was also a strong shift in tone towards me halfway through my time here. The first month or two was very welcoming and warm, the other half it was like a switch got flipped and it was very cold, distant and almost nothing I did was right. I felt stressed in everything I did and it felt like I had someone over my shoulder critiquing me. This turned out to be a very good learning experience for me but not how I expected.
