Pros
This company have a KPO and IT services for our clients. I work for the KPO side. * Laid back atmosphere - stress free some of the time provided that the systems cooperate and no difficulties within tasks are involved. * Plenty of parking - We have a four story building but we have different companies who lease or rent this building also. However, we have the whole floor to ourselves. * Manager is lenient - they are flexible with time provided that you produce numbers. * Easy assignments * Flexible lunch & break schedule - You get 30 minute lunch though. * Good workers to work with * Project can extent - Provided that the team do an excellent job producing quality work and meet quota. * HR personnel in same building - The top HR guy is nice and friendly but stays on the phone all the time. * Nice location - You work in an affluent part of the Greater Nashville Area. Several restaurants around. * Benefits are good - You get all your vacation and leave time up front instead of accumulating one or two work days each month pretty much it.
Cons
* Technology sucks - A good number of times, you can not get decent tech support to figure out issues. You have to request a ticket from them which they have to create a ticket instead of fixing issue right away. Also, when the ticket gets created, the tech support don't get back with you within a reasonable amount of time. Internet access is only limited to work(project) related sights. If you don't have a Smart phone or tablet to look what's for lunch, good luck and ask your co-worker who has a Smart phone or tablet. The download upgrades does not work correctly and when on the job, post download restarts interrupt what you are doing. Also, some of the access to unoccupied work stations is faulty and your credentials is recognize with no access to that PC once the former employee or contractor gone for more than a month. Access to that former employee or contractors PC is gone. Even working from the client sites, it is slow and stagnant at times. Few times, we went a whole day without work because the programs were down due to technical issues. Also, when one of the work stations are down, you have to work at another work station, sometimes the co-worker's station when he or she is on leave. Also, when get hired on or as a contractor, access to your work credentials, such as username and passwords, can take a minimum of three weeks to a month for everything. You have to work under someone's credentials which is against company policy. * Lousy pay and benefits - This company will not give you a sizable raise. I came from a six month contract by a staffing agency and the raise was less than $0.60 when hired-on. The health insurance is from one carrier with three plans only. I have the lower rate but it is still expensive and doesn't pay and cover hardly anything. Also to make matters worse, you have to sign up annually to the same benefits around enrollment period. 401K is optional but you have to wait three months after you are hired-on. * Company resources are Internet based - I understand resources are website-based but this company have too many websites for certain things you are trying to find without much luck. One website address for benefits is different while the website for skill and assessment is a total different address. This company have too many confusing websites and just need one central website where it is neat and organize. * No office manager - There is no office manager to supply office equipment for as gem clips, sticky notes, staplers and etc. You need to supply your own but luckily, I don't have to worry too much since I work on PC all day thru the clients website. Also the break room where people eat lunch, dishes stay dirty with utensils in the sink unwashed. There are no dish-detergent for that matter. I supply my own dish detergent but I wiped down the tables when I eat in there. There use to be two refrigerators, but we are down to one workable refrig. The ice machine no longer works for more than six months. And the reception area is empty everyday with no one working the front desk. - The building is crappy. O.K. the building is nice but on the whole floor just designated for Syntel only, some of the doors shut louder than others, few of the windows in the doors are loose and the temperature in the building is not set accordingly, generally cold. Also, the lights stay on provided that the sensor sees you are moving around. At times sitting at your desk for a very long period of time, the lights turns off. You have to move your arms back and forth in the air for the lights to turn back on. Lack of management - We have a supervisor who is really not a supervisor and let people get away with stuff. This supervisor tries to micromanage your work. Also, this manager does not appreciate anything and show much appreciation of your work but wants you to meet unreasonable quotas that is impossible most of the time. People get burned out quickly and don't care anymore about the work. Also, we have managers over this project and over our supervisor who is unreasonable when it come to the work load outside of this office, quota and etc. For example, this manager let the employee, who is contracted thru a staffing agency currently, work few days out of the week because she is currently studying for another career opportunity. This is a job which requires 40 hours a week for certain quotas that we have to meet which part time hours is easily out of the question. Also, another example, we recently contracted a new person and he has very poor hygiene and badly smells. You see this contractor with bathroom stains on the back of his pants which he wears everyday to work and does not shave at all. The manager does not do anything about it. * Revolving door very badly - We hire contractors and they stay on average within a day to three weeks the most. Yes, that is correct and I am not kidding. I think the reason why is, people don't have access right away, the pay is not all that great and people don't have anything to do but sit around and watch other people work at the workstation without being trained on what is going on. Culture - The company is Indian based company which a good percentage of people who work for Syntel is Indian at least 90%. I'm not against the culture but I am against people who does not use proper hygiene. Most of the people do not use deodorant and my supervisor is one of them. * Highly disorganized from the client - The client is very disorganized and the training is not 100% effective. There is unnecessary research on simple solutions with miscommunication when contacting members. Also, the members can be difficult to get thru. Also, there are too many errors and too many hands on for one account when members get upset and choose to leave the client for another client. The default notes, that the co-workers from out in the field, are used over and over without proofreading and not enough information involved to keep from doing research. We also work with a different team based in India who have too many managers and constantly wanting you to quit what you are doing to work on a critical task.
