In my experience working in research, I noticed that protecting leadership, especially those responsible for securing grants, often takes precedence over fostering open dialogue to improve employee well-being. Unfortunately, HR was not a neutral party and did not facilitate meaningful mediation to resolve concerns. Instead, its role seemed focused on shielding upper management from potential legal repercussions, even when there was no intention of pursuing legal action on the part of the employee.
