Pros

The paycheck is the only reason people stay. Nothing else stands out as a benefit. In GSO Support team - There are no other meaningful reasons to stay.

Cons

Worst management experience I've encountered in my career. The leadership culture felt heavily focused on metrics and pressure rather than employee growth and well-being. Expectations and KPIs often seemed unrealistic and disconnected from practical workloads. Simply introducing AI tools does not magically reduce the effort required to solve complex problems or deliver quality outcomes. Favoritism and internal politics appeared to influence decisions more than merit and performance. Team bonding and collaboration were almost non-existent, and the workload left little to no time for learning, upskilling, or professional development. There was a constant culture of blame, where minor issues were often escalated unnecessarily. Employees frequently felt under scrutiny rather than supported. Job security was another major concern, as the company appeared to operate with a hire-and-fire mindset, creating anxiety and uncertainty across teams. My experience was that employee mental well-being was not prioritized enough. No salary package is worth sacrificing your mental peace, professional confidence, or long-term career growth. Cons: Unrealistic KPIs High-pressure work environment Favoritism and workplace politics Limited opportunities for growth and upskilling Poor work-life balance Lack of job security

Pros

Is Avalara a great place to work? It depends on the team you are on. Pros: - I love my team. I have great co-workers. I feel like leadership to the VP level understands the value we bring and advocates for our work throughout the company - I like being able to go into the office and see people and bounce ideas around - My manager is always pushing me to learn new things and get out of my comfort zone - We just got a new CEO and I am super excited about him and his vision. Everyone who has actually been in meetings with him is excited too.

Cons

It depends on the team you are on. Cons: - Some teams are not as curious/helpful as others. I often have to check and recheck the work they do, after I have chased them multiple times to even complete the work - The layoff fear is real, the idea that at any point your position could be eliminated because they want to keep that revenue per headcount KPI down is everywhere
