Pros

I am continually inspired by the talented and bright people that I work with. This is a company that promotes intelligent people who work hard and demonstrate strong problem solving abilities. I love our offices and our company events, and for the most part enjoy my role at the company. There is a lot of work to be had, and it can be very rewarding if you enjoy a challenging environment and can stick up for yourself. There is a lot of great cross departmental collaboration, and some incredible people to work alongside and learn from.

Cons

There is some pretty rampant sexism in the company, and male employees outnumber women at least 6 to 1, and more like 10 to 1 in any real leadership position. It is definitely easier for men to move through the promotional ranks in this company, and the majority of women are in accounting, HR, and marketing. I have also seen some nasty attitudes develop between women in the company due to the lack of roles for women in leadership type positions. Salaries and benefits are also pretty average, and could use some major work.

Pros

Is Avalara a great place to work? It depends on the team you are on. Pros: - I love my team. I have great co-workers. I feel like leadership to the VP level understands the value we bring and advocates for our work throughout the company - I like being able to go into the office and see people and bounce ideas around - My manager is always pushing me to learn new things and get out of my comfort zone - We just got a new CEO and I am super excited about him and his vision. Everyone who has actually been in meetings with him is excited too.

Cons

It depends on the team you are on. Cons: - Some teams are not as curious/helpful as others. I often have to check and recheck the work they do, after I have chased them multiple times to even complete the work - The layoff fear is real, the idea that at any point your position could be eliminated because they want to keep that revenue per headcount KPI down is everywhere
