Pros
The hospitals are not-for-profit and employees receive annual bonuses. The employees who work for the hospitals are generally happy and get along well. Senior management leaders acknowledge your concerns. When rounding on patients other healthcare professionals including physicians welcome and respect your input for the care of your patients. The laundry list of benefits and employee programs (carpool services, onsite-child care services, in the home elderly-care services, available emergency funds, assistance with home purchaces......)
Cons
The workload is heavy. You can easily go through 8 to 9hrs in a 12hr work day without resting if you work in nursing, respiratory therapy, and other clinicians that deal with patient care. The pay is not the lowest but it is not competitive either. Some departments/units/floors have great supervisors and directors while others do not. A change in department can easily change your impression of your workplace.
