Pros
Reputation of hospital, flexible work schedule, pay adequate.
Cons
I never had a formal review. If I did I was not present. Medical insurance options not very good. Worse than spouses though spouse works for Countrywide Home Loans, a non-medical company. Chose spouse"s insurance as was better price and option. On my unit the nurse technicians were very rude to the nurses. I do not think that this is a large problem on other units, but at BIR (where I worked) I did see the power of the aides was sometimes a problem. Some of the long-term nurses, and newer nurses particularly, were intimidated by the aide(s)--including myself. I would say that this was about half the reason why I chose to leave BIR. It was not a good feeling to be yelled at by a nurse tech/aide in front of other staff members even when you point out that the aides should not be on the internet when it is past time to perform some key patient duties. By the way I did complain about this incident to the house manager. The nurse tech never was written up.
