Pros

I wish I could say more, but the only thing I can come up with is the employee discount. That comes in handy at the holidays when they throw the extra discounts.

Cons

It is run by the Belk family itself, that seems to be an issue with their huge ego and being the largest private retailer. The heads at top have no frickin' clue what they are doing! They want you to focus on the customers to service them, but at the same time they keep eliminating jobs creating more work for the sales associates. Belk sales associates are required to service customers needs and ring up sales, set all the sale events, process all the price changes, keep their departments clean and folded, and on top of all that they shove credit and a stupid customer satisfaction survey down our throats. I am not a sales associate luckily, but I still have to help with all that on top of my job duties of office manager and marking and receiving. I' ve been working there for 6 years, and have never gotten a decent raise without complaining to my store manager. Don't believe anybody else says about how the company really cares for the employees, they could care less!!! If they cared would they be trying to eliminate jobs and try to get every full-time position knocked down to a part-time so they don't have to pay benfits? Never work there!!!

Pros

I loved my job. I’m met so many wonderful people. And the associates couldn’t have been better.

Cons

I hurt myself and had to have surgery, and I was on Worker’s Comp. with limited availability. Because hours were short in operations, they made up this crazy position and wanted me to be ”lead” of the markdown team. I knew that meant for the most part to do go backs. I told them I wasn’t allowed to be on my feet that long and so she said they couldn’t accommodate me and I had to leave. And then the manager had the nerve to call their workers comp and told them I wasn’t coming into work. The management at that time was horrible. But there was a time when I first started working there that to store manager, and the assistant manager were wonderful. We were all so sad they left, but it didn’t take this new manager that I was talking about any time at all to lose almost the entire store associates.
