Pros

Coworkers, but they are just as miserable as you!

Cons

Mediocre pay, mediocre benefits, no advancement, not enough hours, terrible schedule (mandatory 7 day availability, day or night, never 2 days off together) micromanaging and nitpicking management (never arrive 6 minutes late or leave 6 minutes early for ANY reason ever!). They graciously allow employees to sip water during the day, but all else ist verboten!! "Please sir, might I have a sip of tea? I'm feeling awfully poorly." :-( I have more than 20 years retail and customer service experience and am treated like an imbecile. Retail sales in not rocket science but they make it much more difficult than it needs to be. There are monthly, daily, and sometimes hourly "reminders" to hock Belk credit cards. i.e. They care more about opening credit than they care about ANYTHING. (I can't stress that enough!) Maybe sales are down because customers shop where they aren't hounded to open a credit card? If you meet the unrealistic sales and credit goals, you are rewarded with NOTHING (but they MIGHT not slash your pay.) Employees are completely disposable, but I assume loyalty and decent staff are not "cost effective".

Pros

I loved my job. I’m met so many wonderful people. And the associates couldn’t have been better.

Cons

I hurt myself and had to have surgery, and I was on Worker’s Comp. with limited availability. Because hours were short in operations, they made up this crazy position and wanted me to be ”lead” of the markdown team. I knew that meant for the most part to do go backs. I told them I wasn’t allowed to be on my feet that long and so she said they couldn’t accommodate me and I had to leave. And then the manager had the nerve to call their workers comp and told them I wasn’t coming into work. The management at that time was horrible. But there was a time when I first started working there that to store manager, and the assistant manager were wonderful. We were all so sad they left, but it didn’t take this new manager that I was talking about any time at all to lose almost the entire store associates.
