* Internal employee’s resume removed from the pool of candidates when applying for open positioning. Wondering why you didn't get an interview for the opening you saw GreatCall posted, maybe its because GreatCall pulled your resume from the list of candidates. Many employees have had their resume pulled from the list of candidates when applying for positions posted internally with no explanation to why. This caused some of those employees to find jobs elsewhere.
* Career paths are non-existing. The company is currently working on a Quality Assurance to Software Engineer path which is great if you are currently in QA but what about the many other career paths offered at GreatCall. The company has been around since 2006 and are just now developing career paths.
* Job titles are changed during the hiring process. Be careful when interviewing for positions at GreatCall because the company will change your title when hired. Many employees applied to job postings like Senior Software Engineering but were offered lowered job titles at the time ofGreatCall hiring. Please do not settle for any job title than the one you applied for. GreatCall will use any excuse they can find to offer you a lower title with lower pay.
* Salary employees required to work holidays to meet company deadlines with little compensation. I worked on a project where the company did poor planning on how much inventory they had in stock so the project couldn't afford to miss its launch date. The company secretly had the salary employees working on the project work a company-wide holiday so the product would not be delayed and miss the expected launch date.
* Junior positions have pre-selected candidate. If the company posts a junior position available I would recommend you not apply the company has already pre-selected the candidate for that position. This may change when the company has created actual career paths but as of right now you would be wasting your time.
* Work starting to be outsourced. The company has started outsourcing Android and iOS applications development. Some V.Ps have been overheard saying “There are no good Android or iOS developers in San Diego.” News flash Mexico has just as many good mobile developers as San Diego.
* Management rarely discipline anyone who has been with the company over 10 years allowing these individuals to feel entitled and do whatever they want even if it goes against the policies outlined in the employee handbook
* Rushes Software and Quality department to release hardware and/or software filled with serious bugs to meet companies deadline instead of a quality product that meets our consumer's needs. The company targeted audiences is the elderly which they claim don’t update products often but the company still forces developers and quality engineers to release new software and hardware riddled with issues every year instead of focusing on releasing stable software and hardware that our consumers will enjoy.
