Pros
The people who have been on staff really care about the work and the communities served. There has usually been flexibility and willingness to change among everyone on staff. Staff (specialists, coordinators and managers) all help each other.
Cons
BAI is no longer a safe space for Black people or people living with HIV. BAI was always like a family. Though not every "i" was dotted all the time, at the end of the day, people pulled together to do good work for the Black community. Sadly, everything changed in August 2021. The board fell apart, and the staff became victims of the fallout. Two key roles were removed, two teams were disbanded, and staff members were left with many unanswered questions. There was hope throughout this process, but shoes kept dropping. Morale was low. Everyone's power was stripped, and the decision-making was mostly left to a consulting team (was supposed to be a temporary situation, but has seemed more and more permanent). If you can handle a lot of change, moving pieces, and confusion for an undetermined period of time, then join. Otherwise, look for something else. This org is not in the position to support staff at this time.
