Pros
Competitive Pay, Paid Holidays.... That is all.
Cons
As the title states, the glowing reviews on this site for Blue Shield can be somewhat if not totally misleading. I mean, as a very recent employee reading these glistening glowing reviews, it makes almost sick to my stomach and ask myself, what company are they talking about? This cannot be the same Blue Shield that I have worked for fairly recently and a very long time. This is totally an assumption, but it almost feels like someone is hiring and paying people to write positive reviews. Many of the reviews have the same Executive lingo or wording that is used throughout the company, which is good if it was actually exercised. For every negative comment, there are five positive comments to drown out the negative comment, to me that seems strange and the comments have similarities which lead me to believe that they are the same person or persons. Again, that is just an assumption. Being totally honest, the CEO seems to be truly a good guy with a good heart but simply out of touch with what is really going on in his company. The same rings true with his direct staff as well. But after the CEO and his direct staff of 10 or 20 folks, good luck finding good leadership or opportunities. To put that into perspective, the company has over 5-10k employees, so I’ll let you do the math. I am NOT stating that there are no good Managers or People leaders there, or just plain good people because there are, they are just so few that are leaders. VERY FEW. And for a person that believed and wanted to see the company do good, it sucks. This place is so Toxic. Managers are from my direct experience tend to be abusive, chauvinistic, racist, disconnected, power hungry, and do not care about you personally. They also constantly contradict what the CEO’s and Executives preach (Great place to work, Lead, support, etc.). To make matters worse, when the Managers/People Leaders are found out through a very questionable anonymous survey administered by the company on a yearly basis, the worst Managers/People Leaders seem to get promoted. They are also known to confront people in their department for them getting low scores with zero repercussions. good people leave the company consistently. Racism, bias, and not having the right relationship will hurt you in your career advancement as well if you do not play the game. But, if you are fortunate to know the right person, then you are good to go! Cases are reported to HR, but you never hear of a Manager getting fired for downright abusing people. So, the Manager stays and eventually gets promoted if they bring results, no matter what the cost. I am almost sure that HR would like to discuss this further with me, but the truth is, will that change anything? If I give the names of Managers that abuse, discriminate, and promote within their own group while I was there, would they take action? Until then, I will gladly continue to blow the horn to make sure people are aware that this is a toxic place to work for. Readers beware, make sure that you read the negative comments before you think this is the wonderland that is so easily painted by the post that are 5 stars and up. Things are not how they seem. The company has serious potential to be one of the greatest places to work in the world, when they remove the toxic Managers and people period!
