IT Workers Beware - Data Analyst Blue Shield Of California Employee Review

Pros

Good benefits and generally friendly coworkers

Cons

The CEO of Blue Shield decided to break the internal IT department off into its own company. Things are not going well. Entire departments are laid off with just an email announcement on Friday afternoons. There is no real business plan, products, or path forward. Expect to be laid off soon. Management keeps telling us how we will soon be replaced by AI and foolishly buys into every bit of AI marketing hype to the detriment of the parent company. The expectation is that the IT department is now a technology company but salaries are still at non profit levels.

Pros

Limited knowledge transfer and onboarding support for new team members. New hires are often expected to figure things out with minimal guidance. Workplace politics can sometimes impact collaboration and decision-making. Managers may not always be actively involved in supporting team members or addressing concerns. Full-time employees are occasionally treated differently than contractors, creating an uneven work environment. Documentation and process knowledge sharing could be improved. Work culture can be stressful at times, leading to challenges with work-life balance and employee morale.

Cons

Good exposure to projects and technologies. Opportunity to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
