Some Good, Some Bad... More Bad - Manager Boulder Community Health Employee Review

Pros

There is a genuine atmosphere of caring, community and a desire to do what's right. This is embodied in many of the employees, as well as most of the leadership

Cons

It's an old school organization that has been protected by the bubble, and hasn't had to make changes. Many in the organization are extremely resistant to change and will actively work to subvert and sabotage efforts to install positive changes. HR is the worst about this. HR and its leadership is the force that is holding BCH back from being a truly great organization. Not everyone in HR is bad (in fact most of the folks in HR are awesome), but there are a few people there who regularly lie to the Director and VP about what's going on to protect their own agendas, their mediocre work pace, and their own standing in the organization. These are behaviors that are not only tolerated but are protected and in some instances, rewarded. It's something the leaders of this department instilled in their employees, a dysfunctional and toxic culture that creates a level of dangerous exposure for the organization. They talk a lot about the vision, values and "ENCORE!". For this department, those are empty words.

Pros

Good health benefits and good dental benefits for the money paid out. Loved that BCH waived copays for employees and their families when we saw BCH providers.

Cons

Upper management was often dismissive and uncaring. Other managers in my group cared more about their budgets than their employees. I was an outcast as I really did care about my employees and wanted to make sure they knew that. Some of the providers that worked there were bullies. I was often bullied by several of the providers in that practice and once was accused of lying about an illness and the reason that I was not in the clinic that day. Very nosey too, always wanting me to give them information on why a staff member was out and when they would be returning, which was a violation to the staff’s medical privacy. Several of the providers were in a competition with each other to see how many patients they could see in a day regardless of how good patient care was.
