Might as well be a police officer - Security Officer Boulder Community Health Employee Review

Pros

I love my coworkers and most hospital staff is pleasant. I get the opportunity to help people suffering from mental health issues everyday. Management is good, training is better than other facilities, and security is in house. I love the location as well. The only reason any of us stay here is because the schedule allows for 3 12 hour shifts in a row every week.

Cons

The pay is ridiculously low, I started in the $15 range in 2021. If I'm risking my life, health, and safety everyday, I might as well make more money working anywhere else. This job requires de-escalation techniques, hands on takedowns, and patience, above all else. Yet, there are incompetent nurses working in psych, lazy behavioral health workers, and people working in healthcare with no compassion for those who are struggling. Of course, this will be a problem at any hospital. However, nothing is done here about the issues we face, we are the lowest paid department in the hospital, and the pay just cannot make up for what we are expected to do. My advice if you like security- work in PD or find a hospital that cares abut you.

Pros

Good health benefits and good dental benefits for the money paid out. Loved that BCH waived copays for employees and their families when we saw BCH providers.

Cons

Upper management was often dismissive and uncaring. Other managers in my group cared more about their budgets than their employees. I was an outcast as I really did care about my employees and wanted to make sure they knew that. Some of the providers that worked there were bullies. I was often bullied by several of the providers in that practice and once was accused of lying about an illness and the reason that I was not in the clinic that day. Very nosey too, always wanting me to give them information on why a staff member was out and when they would be returning, which was a violation to the staff’s medical privacy. Several of the providers were in a competition with each other to see how many patients they could see in a day regardless of how good patient care was.
