The organization claims to be donor focused but in truth is an overly ambitious, impatient, unapologetic fund raising greed machine. If goals are not met people are packaged out one after another and replaced by someone who will do pretty much the exact same job. The organization exists really only to generate funds for research and there are no local programs that motivate volunteers and donors to stay involved, therefore only a small percentage of people who could be involved really get and stay involved in each local chapter. With a CEO in New York who makes almost 7 figuresThe organization comes under scrutiny for high salaries in the national office. Essentially what the organization wants are yes men and women in each city to do exactly what a micro managing overbearing and overstaffed national group says to do regardless of our inexperienced they are in a particular city,
To illustrate this point on being solely money focused the organization only wants wealthy individuals on all the local boards. There is no interest in having individuals who were affected by the disease from middle class families. If you cannot produce several thousand dollars then there is no place for you to have a voice. This is true even in chapters where the revenue goals are ridiculously high. Despite unrealistic goals, the organization is ready at a moments notice to shuffle someone out of a position with barely a pat on the back and The regionsl team brings in one of their buddies that they would rather have in that position.
When all is said and done JDRF has a set of values that it doesn't live up to when it comes to its own staff. Thusly, the culture and work life balance are as poor as anywhere I have ever been and constantly wears staff down to the bone.
