Pros
Very worthy cause you can feel good about. Since most medical non-profit fundraising organizations work much the same way, you can transfer your skills to most any other similar organization. Through the mediocrity, you can find some excellent, caring, and kind people in the organization.
Cons
Not employee focused at all. It's all about the big donor. Not the average volunteer, not the average staff person, not the most dedicated walkers, just Board members and large donors. HR does not assist employees having problems with managers, and there seems to be rampant abuse. Salaries are fair. Not the lowest, not the highest but there's very little in the way of bonuses or raises. There is very little workplace innovation. Very, very little recognition of good job performance. My office seemed to have perpetual low morale and excitement. Lots of layoffs at the national level, constant strategy change.
