Pros
Great benefits, good national support, local and national board of directors are passionate and accessible, volunteers are committed, great ongoing professional training, fabulous support from Gala team and Walk Team at the top national level, excellent branding (newly implemented) and resources. Marketing materials are excellent and make research easy to understand, particularly the timeline and benefits of the research. Lots of opportunity to network with your peers regionally and nationally. Derek Rapp had just started as CEO so I am not sure what changes he has made since I left 8 months ago.
Cons
Very "event" heavy fundraising organization which can mean very long hours and you are almost always in event mode. When I left, it was very top heavy with layers of management at the national level so it seemed I was always in "report" mode plus having to deal with all the logistics at the chapter level. You have to navigate many software systems to get your job done but there is training and support. Biggest disappointment was the CRM. When I was there I worked under four CEOS and three ED's, lots of turnover throughout the organization but lots of progress as well. If you are in a chapter, your experience will be dictated by the ED, your Regional Manager and national support teams supporting the chapter as well as the vision of the national CEO.
