Pros
Front-line employees, volunteers and fundraisers are incredible people to work with. These are some of the most positive, dedicated and helpful volunteers out there. Many of the volunteers and fundraisers are truly incredible people to work with.
Cons
Your experience will vary greatly among the programs you support and the chapter you work in. Many chapters are overworked, understaffed and led by people who are in management/leadership roles they have no business being in. There is constant backstabbing, drama, in-fighting, blame games, inefficient processes, pointless changes made with no feedback or input from the people who do the job, and unnecessary overburdening processes, leading to overworked, underappreciated, disengaged staff. A repeated issue is national staff taking credit for the work or ideas that local staff create/do, or national staff implementing broad strict guidelines that negatively impact programs, outreach, fundraising or programs. It has become clear more and more than money talks and matters more than mission. Inconsistent and poor support and bad communication from certain national teams. Some areas can be incredibly toxic.
