The appraisal process is not transparent. Hikes were given at the discretion of the manager and this was based on the personal rapport with the manager. I always felt that one had to ask for something in order to get rewarded. The Managerial level lacks the maturity to be at that level, hence causing a lot of friction between managers and engineers. Compensation could be on par with the industry and also there is a wide disparity in the compensation for people at the same level. Lack of processes in promotions were also a major area of discontent.
