Pros

• Rewarding experience helping children and their families • Beautiful, clean, and well-maintained facility • Opportunity to make a positive impact on patients’ lives • Hands-on experience in a pediatric care environment • Work that feels meaningful and fulfilling

Cons

• High work stress due to inconsistent teamwork and coworkers not pulling their weight • Concerns brought to management often go unaddressed, leading to ongoing issues • Schedule changes without notice – Fridays became mandatory despite originally not being required • Weekend expectations increased from the agreed 3 to 4 to 5 more than anticipated if you can not work Fridays which is a Weekday • Very limited opportunities for growth and raises are minimal, annual, and not guaranteed • Benefits are extremely expensive, making them difficult to afford • Heavy micromanagement, creating a stressful and restrictive work environment • Strict tardiness policy – being even one minute late counts as late, with no grace period despite California traffic • Starting pay is low-balled, and negotiating higher pay is nearly impossible • Have to have another job due to low pay and high benefits Also hard to maintain a second job due to scheduling rules and expectations • Feels like working for the name (CHOC/Rady’s) rather than being valued, leading to feeling like just a number • Lack of appreciation for the work employees do daily • Ensure PTO is earned fairly — employees working 12-hour shifts should accrue PTO equivalent to those working 8-hour schedules, reflecting the longer work hours and workload. • Show more flexibility and understanding to help reduce burnout, improve morale, and retain employees who genuinely care about their work. • CHOC merged with Rady’s, and Rady’s employees are unionized — given that the organizations are now merged and operating together, CHOC employees should also have the opportunity to be unionized for fairness and equal employee protection
