Pros
When there’s time, there can be opportunity to learn new skills and pursue interesting projects (unfortunately, there’s rarely time for this) Some of the programs are really interesting Some of the benefits are nice, although becoming standard or below standard for Cambridge Your CRISPR experience is highly dependent on what group you work in.
Cons
Turnover is insane and makes it difficult to do your job DE&I efforts are minimal, there have been instances of senior leadership taking tone deaf actions especially in company wide meetings You can perform way above your job title and function but promotions, pay increase and recognition won’t happen. Reviews and promotions are highly limited and beaurocratic. HR will absolutely not negotiate with anyone regarding this. Many people, especially lab based were hired a level below their previous positions— this seems to be the norm. Pay is standard or substandard for leveling and justified because they give stock options as part of compensation. Attitude is very much “you should be lucky to work here” Work life balance is not great, I regularly get emails and urgent tasks off hours and weekends as late as midnight or 1am. There is a stark disconnect between senior/upper mgmt leadership and functions that are lab based, or they legitimately just don’t care.
