Pros
If you can find someone "important" who likes you and champions you, you're golden and you can do whatever you want. There are different standards for the favorites. Helps to be a white, cis male, yes-man who is willing to be bro-ey. Go elsewhere - other companies are already innovating well past CRISPR Tx, and they offer better pay and leveling.
Cons
Where to even begin. As stated above, there are different standards for different people - I was told this directly by senior management more than once. Some people get straight up fired for being "rude" or in over their heads at their role, while others coast merrily along, contributing nothing to the company. These characters are well known to all. As the company grows, there are more mediocre people who would rather stay the course than speak up about something that is inadequate or needs to change. This leaves highly competent people in a bind, because they need to work more to make up for their colleague's mediocrity, and they are punished if they speak up about it. This as well as the compensation and lack of recognition have led to big turnover of many valuable employees. Management claims to have a strong interest in diversity and inclusion. If they do, why did they hire/promote all white men into the C-suite in 2021? They had several opportunities to fill these roles with more diverse candidates in 2021. The culture is non-existent since COVID began. Some teams are expected to be on call at all hours, even for things that are not actually urgent. The lack of work-life balance plus the lack of cultural engagement means it's a pretty dismal place to be if you are working from home or trying to avoid people in the office because of COVID concerns.
