Pros
CalOptima Health being a public entity, has great benefits from CalPERS, PARS, and minimal employee contribution for Medical and Dental. The team I worked under provided me with a great opportunity to learn Medi-Cal compliance. The teams manager also allowed for some autonomy on many projects. Very personable leaders!
Cons
Unfortunately, the organization overall has many leaders fighting for a spot at a table where decisions impacting members are being made. There seems to be several leaders outside of the Compliance realm that focuses more how they can make themselves look good. Although the organization recently had a rebranding, they have yet to rebrand how they are perceived in the community. It appears executive leadership only cares for the photo-op than the opportunity to contribute to the community they serve. Also, the Compliance culture needs to be reinforced from the staff line of other departments. Much work cannot be done unless for the cooperation of other departments. It’s a stressful role, however, very rewarding.
