Solid pay, a little behind as far as tech goes, but striving to improve. - Software Development Engineer Cambia Health Solutions Employee Review

Pros

Pay is good, considering my position and experience (software developer). Benefits are generally great (401k especially), although the health insurance deductible is a little high compared to other companies. My particular team is very good. Most co-workers are very capable, the team functions well, my manager is on top of things but hands-off in a good way. However, I think I lucked out with my team in some ways.

Cons

I've heard very mixed reviews from other tech workers in the company in other groups. A couple people have had poor management experiences, but surprisingly, the most severe of the two worked out in favor of the employee. It's a big company, so there are issues with bureaucracy--performance measurements that feel very redundant at times, old technologies that are hard to avoid using, etc. Office atmosphere is pretty boring, sometimes a little isolating, but they at least have a big facility upgrade planned (interior renovations). There's only so much you can do to try to spark comraderie among co-workers, so I don't fault them too much nor expect it to improve much, but I do feel like the upgraded interior will make people generally more willing to work in the office and more content while doing it.

Pros

Some of the smartest bright-minded people in IT work there, or used to. Decent pay and benefits.

Cons

The company appears to be in a constant state of reorganization, creating ongoing uncertainty about job security and contributing to low employee morale. This lack of stability has led to confusion, shifting priorities, and an overall lack of focus, which is reflected in the high turnover currently seen within the IT organization. This is especially disappointing because the company was once known for attracting and retaining IT professionals who built long, successful careers there. Leadership appears to lack a clear, unified vision, and that disconnect starts at the highest levels of the organization. Compared with the previous CEO, who despite his shortcomings was widely respected and viewed as an approachable leader, the current leadership feels much more removed from employees. There was once a stronger sense that executives understood and were connected to the day-to-day experiences of the workforce. Today, that connection feels significantly diminished, leaving many employees with the impression of a growing divide between the C-suite and the people doing the work. Honestly, it's quite sad what has happened to Cambia.
