Pros
The pay and benefits are on par with other Blue Cross companies, which are a little better than what you get at smaller carriers. The Portland and Seattle offices are right downtown, which I liked (don't know much about the SLC and Boise offices). The online training courses let you get familiar with a wide variety of software apps. There aren't many positions that require much hard work or brains. The company seems to be dumbing down the work as much as possible. If you're barely competent and quietly swallow your weekly ration of disrespect, you can usually hang around making a decent living for several years. If you have a talent for office politics, you can be a superstar. It also appears the Online Reputation staff is keeping themselves busy (hi guys!).
Cons
It is the insurance business, which isn't very exciting, and the technology is always a hot mess. There are entirely too many weasels and weaselettes including managers who sabotage their own people. Between the politics and sloppy work ethics, it's frustrating when you need cooperation to do your job. There have been several rounds of restructuring and layoffs over the years. Lately the restructuring includes centralizing functions across state lines. Departments that used to be local, self-contained enterprises are getting more layers of management located in other states. That means more conference calls every week and reporting to (and getting judged by) weasels you rarely see. And in the back of your mind, you never know which functions are getting outsourced next.
