Pros
If management has a sales background and properly trained, they ensure you get paid for the work you do. Dealing with different issues everyday means it takes longer to burnout. Most of the year we worked 4 days a week and during busy season 5 days. They allow managers to run the store as if it’s their business and we got lucky. We knew when to put in the work, bundle sales, and utilize the community to get things done. If we were missing a part, a local store may have it. We didn’t wait a week or two for CW warehouse to send it. We took care of the customer.
Cons
If your boss is a corporate manager that’s bounced around protecting company policy, good luck getting paid for your work. I’ve worked at 2 different locations doing the same job and they were ran complete opposite. One location (Concord) involved parts department in every transaction from sales to service while the other strictly secured the camper sale, incorporated $500 into the deal for retail (a gift card to the customer), and then utilized service for getting things done. I literally lost $2k/mo at the second location. You were expected to get measurements, quote parts, call manufacturers to ensure compatibility, and you won’t get paid on a sales quote for your $3k hitch or $7k flat tow, etc. only if it was customer pay outside the deal would you see a commission.
