Pros

The company has hired very highly-talented, intelligent and passionate individuals. They offer a very flexible work arrangement for most. The Inside Sales team is based in the London headquarters. There is some flexibility around working from home and work hours. Working in the office has it's perks, though - FREE water, coffees, teas, cold soft drinks, biscuits and most importantly fresh fruits every day of the week! There are also always amazing sales from the fashion/magazine companies that are based in the Bluefin building. The Bluefin building has a subsidised restaurant on the 11th floor and in summer you can eat in the garden on the 10th floor while looking at amazing views of London. The management is very responsive and helpful. Immediate management is very solutions- and problem-solving-oriented and does everything to help the team succeed - out of the box thinking is always encouraged. Lots of freedom in the job and no micro-management, which is very refreshing. The Inside Sales team has a great and highly ethical attitude towards work and reaching the targets - definitely great team work and wonderful colleagues. Great team nights out with the sales team every now and again - lots of fun (responsible fun, of course!). Great team work between departments, too. Inside Sales does a lot of calls with management, Field Sales and Solution Architects or Engineers on the telephone. This team work is always encouraged and also very helpful, as it assists Inside Sales to get a better understanding of the technology and the internal processes - mostly very flat hierarchies. Sales Sprints every 6 months in ever so exciting cities: Austin, Brussels, Malta etc. - a great opportunity to visit different cities and to learn all about the company's roadmap and new product features. OK base salary and bonus for Inside Sales, but great work-life-balance. Definitely a start-up mindset in the company. We are part of amazing technological projects. The team is constantly learning new things, as a good grasp of the technology is expected by the founder.

Cons

* High turn-over of staff - it seems that all the great people are offered positions at other companies * Highly passionate and demanding founder, which is also a positive, as he encourages and spurs us all to learn all about the technology to become better in our roles

Pros

> Highly visible open source company > O.K. pay and benefits > Twice yearly trips to interesting locations > Intelligent and mostly caring colleagues > Getting to put Canonical on your resume will help your career

Cons

> Toxic leadership style trickles down to the middle management. They're ruthless and single-minded (and extremely intelligent) at the top, and those seem to be the traits that get people promoted. The promotion process is also hilariously involved, and if you don't perform they'll demote you. > Insane interview process - mine took something like four months to complete, represented like 40+ hours of my time, and was considered average. > Twice yearly trips for grueling weeklong sprints. > The company only hires the best so, if you're used to being very good at your job, here you'll only be average at best. > Stack ranking - bottom X% of employees after each biannual review are placed on a PIP. > From what I saw, there are no "personality hires". Morale is expected to be derived solely from the company-paid work trips and the experience of getting paid to create open source software. Maybe this is unavoidable for full-remote companies, but it gets gloomy. > The video-on calls with your team and other teams will take up several hours of every single day, good luck finding time to actually get your work done during the day.
