Pros

My hourly pay was decent, but money isn't everything in the larger view of ethics and how to treat the people who contribute to the salaries of management

Cons

When CareVet took over our small animal clinic, it was with the promise that they'd be "running in the background" with little day-to-day interference. That was a lie. There were plans to make physical improvements to the clinic, but that went out the door when the clinic's founder retired and a new, inexperienced Medical Director was brought in, and in my best guess, funds were re-allocated to provide for his salary and signing bonus. Our HM was so overwhelmed with Zoom meetings, demands to increase productivity, constant texts from the DM and "People and Culture" (c'mon, we're human capital and nothing else - no reason to try and rebrand what's essentially an extension of their legal department), and was expected to also function as a tech because the clinic was so understaffed. What used to be a supportive, caring environment in the clinic ended the day the new MD took over. With no management experience, and less than a decade out of Vet school, this person literally worked with corporate to retool the clinic into something that clients and staff no longer recognize as the clinic that was loved by the communities that we serve, and clients are making a mass exodus because of the environment, massive price increases and an obvious malaise over the entire staff. Our associate veterinarian of 20+ years with the clinic was shown disrespect at every turn, not just from the new MD, but from corporate, and is leaving the clinic, along with over half of existing staff, who have fled. Another vet with no clinical experience was brought in and within 1 day, forced 3 longstanding clients to ask for their records to be sent elsewhere. Remaining staff members expressed how uncomfortable it was working with this person and it fell on deaf ears. Problems were documented and brought to the new MD, and in response, corporate showed up to escort the HM out like a criminal even though they had already put in notice of resignation. This is how they treat the people that pay their salaries.

Pros

I've been with CareVet for five years, and during that time I've learned so much through the different roles I've held and the opportunities I've been given. If you're willing to work hard, there are plenty of opportunities to explore different teams, grow within the company, earn internal promotions, and discover an area you're truly passionate about. To me, CareVet feels like family, and so do the people I work with. I've built meaningful relationships with my coworkers, and I truly can't imagine working anywhere else.

Cons

Like any young and growing company, CareVet has experienced its share of growing pains. However, I've seen firsthand how much we've evolved over the years, and I'm confident we'll continue growing toward the vision that Dr. Kent and Greg set out to create.
