Pros

Expect to work hard, but the work is effective so you feel good about doing a good job, maintaining a standard of excellence. There are good, hardworking people everywhere, Centene is no exception. Some lazy bots too, but the pace at Centene eventually filters them out, so it is likely your coworkers are busting their butt like you are. The company has a lot of good tools, platforms, programs, for employee development. They could be truly effective moving hard workers up the ladder... however, certain key points that would better serve to keep talent satisfied and retained ( benefits, schedule flexibility, metric shadiness for performance evals, work life balance) would cause these programs to be more effective and allow the employee as a whole person flourish into their full potential.

Cons

Very poor work/ life balance. Employees, and even management, can feel anonymous even though a huge percentage of their lives is spent devoted to the entity that is CENTENE. Poor employee benefits ( health insurance) coverage - like seriously, Centene IS an insurance provider but it is an insult what they charge their own employees for premiums, and god forbid you have a family to cover as well - they really could do better. Pay careful attention to the title of what you are applying for. They will call someone who does analyst work a pharmacy technician so they can, with the pharm tech license requirement for the position, keep the salary range comparable to the pharmacy technicians in the area, not the analysts. The pharm techs in the area will certainly include retail pharmacy technicians ( cvs, rite aid, walgreens) who are notoriously underpaid. Beware. Fully expect to appreciate and respect your boss, they are most likely really hard workers and care about you - but know, that in order for them to keep their job, they have to sacrifice that connection to stay within the metrics the company has established.

Pros

A lot of job freedom; there isn't someone breathing down your neck making sure everything is getting done on time. As long as you are present, available, and hardworking, it is a very laid-back job.

Cons

With how separated the departments are, there is not a lot of growth for knowledge or self. There is just too much volume at Centene for one to develop. No matter what team you join, it is a very stagnant role in terms of experience gaining.

Pros

I loved the work and for 6 years was happy with what I did. I knew I made a difference and did my job well. Not many has the same skill set I did and there was always work to do.

Cons

1. It's an old white boys club. I say that as a white individual. It sucks that's how MFN rolls. They say they value diversity but they don't. They will have a token diverse person in an exec role but they're there to be a face, not make any changes or impact. 2. They pay really well but that hurts when you leave. 3. They layoff the good people and keep the undereducated white males. Why? See #1 above. 4. They don't want you if you are female and over 40. Think I'm lying? See the number of females 40+ who got hit in the January "reorganization." 5. HR is a joke. Talent acquisition couldn't find their rear ends with both hands and a map. So many excuses on why they didn't do their jobs. 6. MFN said the HealthNet employees needed to learn the Centene way and the Centene way would prevail. He lied. 7. They never entertained the idea of working from home. At all. Even a 25% WFH option would cut costs and improve morale.
