Pros

10% staff discount, although even with the discount most brand names can be bought cheaper at local stores/supermarkets Some nice customers

Cons

I am in my early 60's and worked for co-op for almost 13 years. Mostly I work afternoon- early evening 4 days a week plus weekends when i work mornings-mid afternoon I asked if I could cut my hours down, only working every other saturday morning like the majority of other till staff (some don't work weekends at all) instead of my current every saturday 7:00-12:30 one week and the second week 7:00 - 3:00 plus sunday My manager replied, he wanted people to work more hours not less, and he implied he'd like me to start working evenings till 11:00 as that's when he needs staff Then he said, You are a single person, what do you mean you need more time to do things? I have a daughter who lives in a nearby town who I hardly see because I am working weekends when she is free and my day off is in the week when she is working If you are married, you have a husband to share the tasks at home, being single I have to do everything myself. When you are married, you go home at night to your husband/wife, I have to fit in a social life as well The married people mostly do not work weekends. The married people who do only work every other weekend and are allowed those weekends off as holiday I am not allowed the weekend off where I have to work till 3:00 saturdays and on Sunday. If I book a week off work, it isn't allowed to start on the sunday (if it is a working one) despite the week being sunday-saturday. My last holiday could only start on the monday. I am guessing this view on single people having no rights to a life outside work is authorised by co-op as I am sure my manager has had training in such matters. I have tendered my resignation and will be glad to leave the place

Thank you for your comment. I'm concerned to hear you're having issues with your hours and manager in your work place. Manager should respect requests for hours as much as the can and treat all colleagues equally. I recommend that your raise your issues with your Area Manager and HR so that they can look into this and help with your hours. ^Catherine

Pros

Team got on well, hours weren't particularly harsh (pay not particularly impressive either)

Cons

Overworked due to corporate ruthlessly cutting hours (while hiring more staff?), generally piling on more and more work to the store team without considering time constraints, absolutely no opportunity for advancement while a store manager is already there
