Pros

Quite a social company, and people in the office are very friendly and easy to get on with.

Cons

No support for graduates that haven't had much work experience. Expect you to work overtime, and everyone in the company does- for no extra pay. Costello management don't budget enough time on projects so you have to produce work really really quickly, they still need it to a high standard though, so you will have to work overtime. If you have annual leave you will still work the same amount of hours as they don't make much allowance in their planning for time off. The Pharmaceutical companies that we work for don't require much/any creativity, the work feels more like a production line. Not willing to support you if you have disabilities. They say they will give reasonable adjustments, but then don't put them in place. Company culture appears amazing, but it is not as good as they present it at all.

Costello Medical Response

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Costello Medical. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t feel supported as a new graduate; we pride ourselves on our extensive 2-week induction period and the ongoing training that we provide to our new starters. Most of our new joiners across the design and scientific teams join us straight after university, and we recognise the learning curve that is experienced. For this reason, every new starter has weekly catch-ups with their line manager, and is also supported by a divisional new starter representative. Please also be assured that every colleague who discloses that they have a disability or health condition (either prior to their employment in their health questionnaire, or during employment) has reasonable adjustments put in place for them. A member of the People team meets with each colleague and their line manager to understand how their disability affects them at work, and how we can best support them. Often, this involves organising an Occupational Health Assessment with our external provider, and we have also supported a number of colleagues through the UK government’s Access to Work scheme. Adjustments are varied depending on an individual’s specific requirements but can include software and tools, additional support such as coaching and extra touch-points with a line manager, and a range of physical adjustments too. We also check-in regularly with those who have been given additional support to ensure that they have been given the right help. I am sorry to hear that you felt that this was not the case for you; I would encourage you to email emma.king@costellomedical.com should you wish to discuss this further. Finally, we are proud of the company culture that we have created; we hope that this is evidenced by our recent inclusion in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for list, where we ranked above industry across every area, including wellbeing, line management and job satisfaction. In this survey, we also achieved an “excellent” score for diversity and inclusion with a 0 percentage point difference in average score between majority and minority groups. Thank you again for your review, and wishing you the best for your future.
