Pros
I like the fact that I am not committed to a set schedule. At this time in my life, having the ability to choose when I work without fear of being terminated is wonderful. I can pick up hours as needed and be paid for the hours I work the next day is great. Since it is a agency work, I am allowed the opportunity to work "try out"different facilities, and if I don't like a particular place, I can let my employer know and they will not send me there again. I can also take a traveling position which is nice, because it gives me the opportunity to work in other states where they have offices available. Overall I enjoy the flexibility, and the fact that they work with my schedule and understand that life happens.
Cons
I don't like having to fax off my time slips everyday/night. I don't like the fact that I signed up for day time hours, but lately have found myself working nights. Most of the facilities they send my to, are far out and leaving in the middle of the night or early morning hours can be a headache especially when it is usually areas I am not familiar with. I signed on with them to break away from working in LTC/SNF because I have been working in those types of environments for many years and wanted something new (which they said they would give me), but since signing on I have only been offered work in the very places that I don't want to be and working hours that I am really not available for. Many times they call at the last minute after I have already made plans to do something else for the day. Usually I end up working at a particular facility that seems to be filled with misery because no one else will go there. Even though I can get my paycheck the same or next day, it is pain having to drive all the way to the main office to get it. They do offer direct deposit, which is nice, but it takes two days for each paycheck to be deposited to your account. Not being familiar with the patients and staff I encounter can also be a headache, but it is to be expected since I am not a "regular" at any of the places I am sent to.
