Pros

Inclusive environment that pushes comprehensive and thorough learning for students while promoting diversity and tolerance

Cons

So many, I couldn’t even state them all. First of all, you only get $200 to fund your classroom. I had a master’s degree and started off in DC at $57k (definitely not enough for what you’re doing). I was finding that a good portion of my paycheck was going back to my classroom (so in truth how much was I actually making?). The kind of support teachers get varies depending on the school you’re working at, and as you can imagine, unfortunately things are tougher for educators in lower income areas. IMPACT is so high stakes that it makes administrators stressed out and oftentimes they hunt down educators. It becomes a sort of witch hunt where educators in need of actual support are targeted, harassed, and bullied. Educators in turn become stressed out. A lot of us left this year and will not be returning. I advise all to not apply. It’s just simply not worth it.
