Pros
World leading product and a chance to be part of a rapidly growing, genuinely innovative, company. As a young department, CS provides an opportunity to help shape your role and that of the team and take new ideas forward. In contrast to other departments in Darktrace reviewed here, there is little if any micromanagement and you really are encouraged to try new ways of working and share success stories when they work out. The management team are genuinely approachable and open to suggestions. Great exposure across the business, including regular interaction with senior management and SMEs. Fantastic team, great collaborative culture and regular socials (covid allowing), charity initiatives etc. Good career progression potential, Darktrace promotes from within.
Cons
Salaries, even with bonuses, are below what are offered in the wider industry and headhunters have already picked up on this. This is especially significant as CSMs don’t receive any renewal commission regardless of the amount of work they put into an account, and bonuses are fairly low. Lack of clarity of AE/CSM role distinctions. In some accounts, the CSM takes over almost all the account management, while in others the AE wants to attend every meeting and the CSM (& probably the customer) is left wondering what the point of having an additional person on the account team is. Some inefficiencies, such as being asked to send (manually) multiple invitations and reminders for several different consecutive events, while marketing also do the same using mail merge tools. This is a big drain on time as well as annoying for customers. Severely under-resourced Cyber Technologist team with evidently low morale. I hope that management will address the concerns leading to very high turnover of CTs. CSMs and sales reps rely on them to be able to do our jobs, and losing so much talent makes this much harder.
