Pros
None. I can’t think of any.
Cons
The main goal of this post is to review a current manager for the aforementioned job title. He came from the largest investor-owned utility in New Hampshire and I had the privilege of being under his tutelage for half a year. He projected an outward appearance of being friendly, inclusive and providing positive encouragement to his staff. However, in the privacy of his office, he was a completely different person. I had the misfortune of overhearing an employee review between him and another manager. The same employee to whom he delivered praise just weeks earlier, he completely destroyed and all hopes of a promotion within the company. I would liken it to being a proverbial ‘snake in the grass.’ During my tenure with this manager, I split time between two different work locations. He would routinely assign me tasks when I was at the other location, knowing full well I had plenty to do there. He expected me to complete them in a timely fashion and since I reported to him, he could abuse his authority. In addition, he completely neglected his duties as a program mentor. We arranged a time to meet following a managerial meeting to have a session. However, he never showed up and after waiting for a quarter hour, I decided to leave. On my way out, I happened to see him in the parking lot laughing and telling jokes with a fellow manager. Unsurprisingly, he was never one to shy away from a moment in the ‘good old boys club’ spotlight. When I asked him the next day about his absence, he lied and told me the meeting had gone longer than expected. What a way to lose ones credibility! In short, congratulations EPS! You’re getting some true, grade-A talent!
