Pros
Opportunity for Advancement: I started on the operations team, and held three different positions over four years of employment there. Many of the colleagues I started with also moved on to other roles within the company. If you work for it and seek it out, the company will do its best to help you achieve it. Fun Atmosphere: Office has a very laid-back vibe, it's easy to have fun and joke around (often with the CEO). There are no "trade secrets" within the company, everyone is willing to offer help/solutions, and to take the time to explain answers to your questions. You get great deals on golf, and many of the employees will go out and play together on weekends (or maybe skip out early on a Friday in the summer and play 9 in the city). Rapid Growth: The company is expanding quickly, and while this has caused some growing pains (office space issues), you can't deny the excitement it generates. It feels like a start up environment, even though the company has been around for 20 years. There are a never ending stream of projects being announced, commenced, or suggested by the employees. You can easily carve out something you take personal interest in and find a way to get involved. As I mentioned earlier, the support from upper management is excellent in this area. I've witnessed many projects come to fruition from a simple: "Hey, what do you think about this?"
Cons
Office Perks: For a while there weren't very many, but they've gradually started to improve this. Providing snacks and beverages is becoming the norm in the industry (especially while the largest and most profitable tech companies now cater breakfast, lunch, and take home dinners). I'm a stickler for snacks though, so this con carries some personal weight. I just think it is one of the simplest and cost-effective ways to make your employees happy, and boost overall morale. Engagement with Industry: Sometimes you forget that it's a golf company. The office could use T.V.'s with the golf channel, espn, weather channel, etc. streaming. Engage more with the game of golf, the PGA Tour, and remind everyone why it's exciting to work in one of the coolest industries out there! The company shows its age a little bit in this area. Their social media feels awkward and dated. They could afford to loosen up and have more fun with it.
