Terrible work life balance - Carrier Sales Representative Echo Global Logistics Employee Review

Pros

They pay you. Beer on Fridays to distract you from the fact you are finishing off a 55-60 hour week talking to truck drivers.

Cons

Bad pay, bad hours, and very little chance to advance. There is a social circle similar to high school in the Chicago office. Those who kiss up to their managers or are part of the "cool" crowd advance. The only problem is that being part of that crowd is actually kind of pathetic. Carrier sales is like working in a call center. Everyone sits in front of their computer screens all day with their head sets on, and your calls are counted. Very little human interaction leads to a toxic atmosphere, especially after the company laid off a large percentage of its employees, most of them new hires.

Pros

My time at ECHO was phenomenal, we had an incredible team, a fearless leader and my peers were intelligent, hard working and driven. The company was growing, going into new verticals and hiring both in Chicago and across our regional offices. After COVID the office was too large so they downsized into a really cool industrial modern office. Each desk was outfitted with multiple large monitors and if you need anything tech wise, it was easy to get. They held annual winter parties that were fun and a great way to meet employees in other orgs. Being in HR I was not as involved in the Sales or revenue building activities but I did work closely with the hiring leaders who were excellent. Overall, the company was always looking to improve it's hiring practices and the senior leadership was committed to making ECHO more diverse, which was great to see, and really encouraging.

Cons

I joined at a peak time in ECHO's history and the company was riding a wave of momentum. Unfortunately the good times were fading and the business really started to struggle post supply chain boom. I never got the feeling that the sales team had much energy, there was very little socializing and when you walked by the sales teams, you could hear a pin drop, seemed like most team members were doing very little. It's clear the company was not doing well and instead of shaking things up, nothing really changed. The business was failing and layoffs were constant.
