Pros

Great people to work with if not in management, catered lunch every other Friday, beer every Friday afternoon, team lunches, snacks for the late afternoon or early morning, morning crew breakfast, ping pong table and social events every other week like movie or game night.

Cons

IT Management consists of people that are baked in and comfortable at their job. They don't care about the engineers or about their careers. There is no formal training given or encouraged - you have to be proactive to learn on your own. With the new CIO, the mentality is that you are replaceable by consultants unless you are in management or enterprise architect. Consultants are brought in for quick wins instead of helping to staff a team. Some teams consist of one or two engineers doing the work for four people while other teams have six people doing the work of two. Favoritism is rampant like consultant being brought on full time and promoted to director or senior engineer promoted to enterprise architect. Decision on what technology to use keeps changing. Management cannot support or stick to one decision which in turn wastes company money and time.

Pros

My time at ECHO was phenomenal, we had an incredible team, a fearless leader and my peers were intelligent, hard working and driven. The company was growing, going into new verticals and hiring both in Chicago and across our regional offices. After COVID the office was too large so they downsized into a really cool industrial modern office. Each desk was outfitted with multiple large monitors and if you need anything tech wise, it was easy to get. They held annual winter parties that were fun and a great way to meet employees in other orgs. Being in HR I was not as involved in the Sales or revenue building activities but I did work closely with the hiring leaders who were excellent. Overall, the company was always looking to improve it's hiring practices and the senior leadership was committed to making ECHO more diverse, which was great to see, and really encouraging.

Cons

I joined at a peak time in ECHO's history and the company was riding a wave of momentum. Unfortunately the good times were fading and the business really started to struggle post supply chain boom. I never got the feeling that the sales team had much energy, there was very little socializing and when you walked by the sales teams, you could hear a pin drop, seemed like most team members were doing very little. It's clear the company was not doing well and instead of shaking things up, nothing really changed. The business was failing and layoffs were constant.
