Pros

You are receiving a paycheck, casual dress code, a very young office and drinking Friday afternoons at around five till 6:30 (they do that to keep you there). Also, there are a lot of cool prize giveaways on Fridays if you have a solid week of sales.

Cons

You are going to work 6:30 - 5 or later each day and you will constantly feel like you are going to get fired. Young managers some of which have no business being in the roll. It is very hard to hit commission! This job is a waiting game, get your region managers to like you and they will throw you a bone as people quit and carriers are no longer locked. Commission will be hit realistically in a little over a year but if you can handle the long days and low pay for a little over a year then there is some real promise but from experience I will tell you it is extremely difficult. Also, prepare to eat work at your desk because eventually you will almost be forced to.

Echo Global Logistics Response

We appreciate you taking time to review your experience in carrier sales. The role is demanding and hours can be long but this is also fairly common in our world. The hours are always hit home on during the interview process along with ramp expectations/averages. The carrier sales role can be tough but it can also be extremely rewarding. Like many other sales roles your first year in carrier sales is when you develop a base of business and start to understand the market. We typically see real ramp start to occur after the one year mark as reps begin to hit their stride. Our management teams goal is to develop our sales talent and give them the tools needed to be successful. We also strive to create a fun energetic work environment. In regards to the playing favorites I'm not familiar with the exact events you're referring to but I can say our relationship guidelines are fairly cut and dry and we rarely deviate from the requirements. If you believe that there was unfair treatment or favoritism, please email me directly with the details and I assure you we'll review and take action if need be. If you have any further feedback, feel free to email me directly @ cafernandez@echo.com

Pros

Quarterly bonus of 1.5% of gross profit on accounts managed. No sales activities needed.

Cons

Accounts and sales representatives managed are allocated by sales operations manager and representatives, so it can be based on luck and the actual sales representatives you are able to work under. Organized in pod structure - sales operations team working within sales team.
