Great compensation for the role Very smart/helpful/capable coworkers Interesting work that has direct impact on quality of healthcare Autonomy; I determine my schedule and priorities, although it is constrained by what my customers need. I have flexibility to choose projects I want to work on outside of direct customer support. Opportunities to move into management or lead in a specific project/area Structured orientation and training Some opportunity to travel Great campus - high quality food, fun decor, gorgeous landscaping, well maintained, individual/paired offices
Cons
The "Pros" really are great :) I just have more explanation on the cons... Turnover; Epic churns through recent college graduates and does not seem to prioritize or value hiring industry experts. Management shows us statistics to persuade us that turnover is normal for the industry, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do better. Our work is complex and our hires have little-to-no industry experience coming in. Training takes 2-3 months and being very effective at the job without close mentoring/advising takes ~6-8 months. Resistant to providing much remote work flexibility. Management insists that the quality of the campus and in-person interactions should compensate. Location in Madison isn't optimal for diversity Lean staffing; constant state of prioritizing what is most important, a lot of software issues are not addressed quickly, making customer support more frustrating. It's up to individuals to stand up for their work-life balance (although it is perfectly possible to keep it to 40-45 hours/week).
